Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Navigating through a sea of information can sometimes be overwhelming. To make your journey smoother, we’ve compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) about SHS&S. Whether you’re seeking clarity on specific topics or simply want a better understanding of our offerings, this FAQs page aims to provide answers.
- My name is Lynnel Townsend. I have had over 15 years of working as a professional care giver known as a DSP through professional home caregiving agencies. I created a Structured Holistic Service & Schedule, because of my experience, and witnessing first hand the physical and emotional toll never ending caregiving can take on the lives of a caregivers. This is especially so if they did not have relief or a support system in place. I created this program to support these individuals.
- As a DSP, Professional caregiver, I am someone who understands how caregivers feel. I also recognized there are many individuals who needed the services of a professional home caregiving agency but they could not afford these services or were not insured. Therefore, I wanted to design the program in a way to give them some of the same invaluable tools they would receive through such agencies, but at a fraction of the cost. I created it so that these individuals could have a unique plan of action in place and additional caregivers who could work a few days a week to give them free time for themselves. As a result, this would give them the physical strength and mental clarity to have a complete transformation and bring a degree of normality in their home in a more relaxed environment.
- I target Main Family Caregivers who could not afford help through professional home caregiving agencies. My purpose is to provide them with training through a 4 week course in our online school. The courses are designed to give these individuals some of the same skills, services and tools they would receive through such agencies at a fraction of the cost.
- In addition to providing these skills and services our goal is to also help them generate additional caregivers who we will train. These will work 2-3 days a week 8-10 hours a day to give them free time away from their love ones.
- This first sad experience was a painful one to me concerning a family of three that were all dear friends of mine. Though each one had medical issues and needed total care, only two of them had a terminal illness. It broke my heart that circumstances did not permit me to help them in their crisis. Sadly as things got progressively worse and as they were forced to become caregivers to one another, I watched as their health continued to decline and within 4 months they all passed. This was because they were all trying their best to take care of each other. The saddest thing was the last to die. He was the youngest of the three. Though he had serious health issues, they were issues he could have lived with had he not been forced to become a caregiver when he personally needed caregiving.
- Another sad situation was a family member of mine. This individual was in a nursing home but died as his health progressively declined. Despite being in a nursing home he still needed caregiver support to make sure his needs were properly met. This is a situation that is happening too often in nursing home and assistant living care where many of them are understaffed. This means that the quality care these sick individuals need they may not get. This is why it is imperative even in theses facilities that families have a plan of action and a support system in place to visit your love one and make sure their needs are being met. This is especially so since the pandemic where many of these facilities are severely understaffed!
- After receiving our training, our goal is for these Main Family Caregivers to have a unique plan of action in place, structured to take their needs and the needs of their love ones into consideration. Through the training we will help them create a Binder similar to the ones professional home caregiving agencies use in the homes of their clients. This is one of the main tool they use and that I used throughout the years when I worked with any home caregiving agency. These binders were all filled with a medical profile of the individual needing care. As we structure our binders like this, we will also include daily task sheets, weekly schedules and so much more. As a result, any caregiver working with your love one will know how and what to do to provide quality care.
- Another goal is to help these families generate additional caregivers who will be trained to work 2-3 days a week, 8-10 hours a day to give these individuals me time, free time away from their love ones. Since our Services are only 4 weeks long, they can use this free time to explore other agencies and resources. These will further assist them with their love one’s needs, and educate them on their disease after they complete our training courses. Our training courses are designed to help stabilize them in their desperate situation.
In a world filled with many diseases it would be impossible to educate families on all of these. This is not our field of expertise. Our 4 week training services are designed to try to stabilize an individual in their State of Emergency of “Caregiver Burnout or Crisis.”
To illustrate, our services are similar to what an ambulance equipped with an EMT does in a state of emergency. They take care of the immediate life threatening need and stabilize the individual while in route to the hospital. Our services provides them with: a plan of action, a medical profile of the individual needing care and try to help these MFC generate additional caregivers. These we will train to provide quality affordable caregiving a few days a week. This will give them free time away from their love one needing total care. As a result, this help will create stabilization and a transformation, while preparing them to benefit from further assistance from other agencies.
Like the example of the Ambulance and the EMT, Once a person in a life threatening emergency arrive to the hospital, the life saving services the EMT provided and Ambulance are no longer needed. This is because a trained medical staff takes over in the ER as they are placed in ICU.
In the same way, after the completion of our 4 week course, designed to help these caregivers in their crisis, with their plan of action in place, we will direct them to additional agencies. These can take over (like the ER Staff in ICU) by educating the person on the disease and providing other services and support. Go to our 4 week training courses.
As a result, with the combined effect of the SHS&S Team and these additional agencies, these individuals and their families will have physical and emotional strength and stability to provide the best care they can to their love one in desperate need of support. These combined efforts of the SHS&S Team and other caregiving agencies will support these families throughout the duration of their love one’s illness.
I would like others to know that these Main Family Caregivers could represent your friend, family, neighbor or it could even represent you now or in the future, either as a person needing care or a caregiver. This is especially so since we live in a world with so much sickness.
